Deck and anchor groundwork for a new cover

Where a safety cover needs new anchor points, Harborlane Pools plans that groundwork as part of the fitting assessment for pools around North York, Ontario.

Anchor point planning

New-build pools and recent deck resurfacing jobs often arrive without any anchor points for a safety cover. The assessment visit maps out where anchors belong around the coping, checks the deck material can hold them, and confirms spacing against the pool's actual outline rather than a catalogue size. We look at the material underneath the coping too — poured concrete, interlocking paver and natural stone each take an anchor differently, and that difference changes both the hardware we specify and how long the layout visit takes.

This is a planning and fitting service, not a general pool-building trade: we do not pour shells, install plumbing or finish decking. Anchor placement is scoped once the surrounding hardscape is already in place, which is why we ask to see the finished deck before quoting rather than working from a builder's drawing alone. For a brand-new pool, this usually means the groundwork visit happens once pavers or coping stones are set, not before.

Where a deck has been poured specifically with cover anchors in mind, the layout visit is shorter, since the contractor's spacing can often be confirmed rather than planned from scratch. Where it has not, we mark out a layout that respects both the structural limits of the deck and the pool's real outline, and note any spot that may need reinforcement before an anchor can be set there safely.

Credentials

Who carries out the groundwork

Lead fitter

Responsible for the on-site measurement and the anchor layout plan, with several seasons of residential pool cover fitting in the Greater Toronto Area. The lead fitter is the same person who carried out your original assessment, so the layout plan reflects the exact pool and deck already measured.

Installation crew

Handles anchor hardware installation and cover tensioning once the layout is confirmed, following municipal fastening practices for deck materials in Ontario. The crew checks each anchor for secure tension before leaving, rather than treating installation as finished once the hardware is in the ground.

Scheduling

Lead times and access

Anchor layout work is scheduled after the fitting assessment confirms deck material and clearance. Most anchor and cover installations are completed within a few business days of the assessment, weather and material lead time permitting. Clear access to the pool deck helps keep the visit to a single day. Where a new deck is still curing or a paver supplier is mid-delivery, we schedule the layout visit around that timeline rather than rushing an anchor placement into unsettled material.

Most homeowners book the groundwork visit soon after their deck contractor finishes, while the layout is still fresh in mind. If you are planning a deck replacement and already know you want a safety cover afterward, telling us before the pour lets us flag anchor spacing to your contractor in advance, which can save a second mobilization later. The same applies to above-ground additions like a new hot tub deck built next to the pool — any change to the surrounding hardscape is worth mentioning before we finalize an anchor layout.
